What’s a safety management system anyway?

A safety management system, or SMS, is an interdependent and predetermined group of standards that guide how a company will operate safely. As the SMS is designed to be a part of the overall management system, the guidance remains at the why we do things level and not the how we do things level. However separating the SMS from the management system allows a laser focus on only the safety elements of how the company is to operate.

The DERISK SMS is designed to foster a culture of continuous improvement (CI) while performing safely and reliably.
